ugly language

The Duke referred to his minions with crude insults, spoken in a twisted type of kindness, only evident because they seemed to accept his abuse, so nonchalant. It implied some sort of exchange, they took his ugly language without blinking and he gave them something in return. I never knew for certain what he gave them, although I presumed it was along the lines of a bed, money or drugs. If it was something else, they kept it hidden away. It only seemed to make matters worse.
