Scratching an itch with the roar of an engine pointed away from the past, leaving behind a world of trouble, heading toward yet another, unknown but real. She pushed her hair from out of her eyes but it just as soon fell back again, taking a long swig from a bottle pushed securely between the seats, her passenger, her companion in flight slept restlessly, turning first one way then another to avoid the glare of street lamps shining through dust covered windshields, groaning when the road grew bumpy, picking up a diet cola to suck the final drops augmented by the rapidly melting ice.
